KOINONIA Residential Treatment Center - Rhinelander Wisconsin

KOINONIA is a 35-bed, Wisconsin State- Certified and licensed Community-Based Residential Treatment Center providing recovery programs and services for addicted adults. The name “KOINONIA” is a Greek word meaning “FELLOWSHIP AROUND A COMMON GOAL.” The name was chosen to reflect the value placed on recovery by our Northwoods residents and communities. The meaning, however, started and remains today the center point of our recovery philosophy. KOINONIA was established in 1974 as a transition facility. In 1991, a new 11,000 square foot facility was constructed on a beautiful, ten acre, naturally-wooded site in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. The dedication of this facility was the beginning of our ability to offer a wider range of programs and services while keeping with our goal to see that no adult seeking recovery from addiction be turned away.

Our facility and programs continue to grow, improve and change with the times. In 2006, KOINONIA received the prestigious “Award for Excellence” from the Wisconsin Association on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (WAAODA) for maintaining an “outstanding program.”

KOINONIA strives to offer the best in recovery and follow-up services and care for our clients, and the best in education and prevention services for our communities.

 

 

The Treatment Program

KOINONIA’s primary addictions treatment program is designed around the needs of each individual. The KOINONIA Program is based on evidence-based practices with individual treatment planning. Treatment is accomplished through a structured daily regiment that includes:

The Staff

KOINONIA uses a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitative care. We draw from a wide range of community professionals with specialized skills in areas such as spirituality, health care, nutrition, HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual abuse and domestic abuse prevention and recovery, anger management, and building healthy relationships. The Staff of KOINONIA prides itself on being experienced and professional, yet caring and approachable. Our 24-hour coverage is enhanced by a House Staff that is skilled in day-to-day client management and services and is knowledgeable of recovery principles and practices. Dedication to the success of the individual client is the common goal of the entire KOINONIA team.

Special Services

Group Activities

KOINONIA offers a variety of group activities for our clients including volleyball, campfires, serenity walks, horseshoes, sweat lodges, art therapy and more. Also, in accommodating weather, groups can be held outdoors. We incorporate the best of the Northwoods nature experience into our recovery program.

Social Setting Detoxification

People who require non-medical detoxification can be admitted for around-the-clock monitoring and treatment until they are stabilized.

Specialized Programs

Women’s Outreach Program

KOINONIA, in conjunction with the Tri- County Women’s Outreach Project, has developed a collaborative service system for women in Forest, Oneida and Vilas counties. This community outreach program uses an innovative wraparound service approach to enhance the long-term success of the treatment program for tri-county female clients of KOINONIA.

Native American Program

This program offers culturally-specific services and staff for Native American clients. These services are integrated into the mainstream activities of the local tribal communities where followup care is provided for those tribal members. The main focus of this integration is always the continued successful abstinence by clients upon return to their own tribal community.

Family Program

KOINONIA offers weekly family group sessions where communication, education, and healing are the focus. Family members are also involved through topic-related conferences and individual counseling sessions.

For all of our programs, our natural setting plays an important part in the recovery process.
